Cross Couple - 60th Anniversary

CLINTON - Janet and Gary Cross will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday. They were married July 12, 1958, in Rock Island, Illinois. The two met while earning bachelor degrees in education at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois.
Janet taught elementary music lessons to students at Northeast (Camanche) Elementary School; and business classes (typing, shorthand, etc.) to students at Camanche High School. She also gave piano lessons from their home; sang in the several choirs (1st Presbyterian Church, St. Mark's Methodist Church, and the Clintones).
Gary taught a variety of classes; coached high school baseball, basketball and football; served as an athletic director; and advanced his career to the principal of Camanche Middle School.
Currently Janet and Gary enjoy being members of St. Mark's Methodist Church and volunteering their time for various events in Camanche.
Their family includes son, Terry (and Susan) Cross of Ames, Iowa; and daughter, Nancy Cross of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Janet and Gary have five grandchildren, who they have enjoyed spending time with whenever it is possible.
